Supper at Red's Smart Women Week
This time last week, I got the chance to host one of three supper clubs for Red Magazine’s Smart Women Week. The entire week was held at One Belgravia, a lovely venue not too far from Hyde Park. The room the supper club itself was held in, was decorated with crispy leaves in addition to orange and red flowers plus candles to add a touch of cosy and mark the beginning of autumn.
I don't think words can express how happy I was to host my very own supper club. From taking the time to create the menu right down to interacting with guest! Stepping in to the room helped to reaffirm I'm going down a career path that's right for me and provided I keep working hard, I'll be very successful.
The purpose of Red's Smart Women Week is to empower women to be the best versions of themselves. There was so much to do and learn, from fitness classes to session on how to start your own business.
I was lucky to be joined buy some top food bloggers, cookbook authors and editors on the night. Here, at my very intimate gathering, were people whose photos I’d admired on Instagram, whose cookbooks I love reading and whose articles I looked at for inspiration, all ready to eat my food.
I'm all about modern and fusion Nigerian food so creating a menu for autumn in London was a blast. Guest were served akara (bean fritters) for canapés with a choice of a scotch bonnet pepper dip and coconut flavoured ogi (fermented corn custard). The starter was a smooth aubergine soup served with seabass inspired by garden egg sauce, a Nigerian street food. For the mains, hasselback plantains were served to accompany the star of the show, venison dressed in uda sauce . Lastly as a palette cleanser, mango & coconut partfait, which contained layers of chin chin, mangos in syrup and coconut flavoured whipped cream.
It was a lovely night filled with laughter, great conversation and wonderful company. Without a doubt, it was definitely time well spent, which is why I'm happy the event was sponsored by Rado. Check out the video I made with them for their #TimeWellSpent campaign below.
I don't think the night could have been anymore perfect and that's with special thanks to Pip McCormac, the Red Team, the One Dining Team (especially Matthew) and of course Majestic Wines for the lovely course pairings.
I loved being part of RSWW and I am so proud to have had the chance to share my take on Nigerian food.
